Mrs. Keylon’s 7th and 8th grade students are learning how to grow lettuce in this hydroponics lab. They planted seeds on August 28, saw them sprout 3 days later, and finally the plants were big enough on September 6 to transplant into the water. We will be eating salads before you know it!

Thank you to today's Food Truck Day supporters. Several teachers were thankful for a sponsored treat! Book Fair begins online tomorrow and in person next week. You may view the schedule and make E-wallet (cash free student account) on the website below. All visitors during school day and volunteers must have license scanned at front office.

Please support our Calhoun Cheerleaders and get your car washed this Saturday!

Fifth Grade is studying The Engineering Design Process. Students planned and designed a bridge made from pasta and then tested their designs to see if they were successful! Great work, Minks!

While studying energy transfer due to radiation, conduction, and convection, our 6th grade classes made solar ovens. These used radiation from the sun to cook s'mores. Thank you, Mrs. Weatherspoon, for an outstanding learning experience!

Thank you to Denso Manufacturing in Athens for the monetary donation that made this electromagnet activity possible today in Mrs. Keylon’s 8th grade classroom.

Meet Calhoun’s Tier 4 Intervention Team!
My name is Brittany Lawson, and I am Calhoun’s Tier 4 interventionist. My husband and I have three sons that keep us pretty busy with sports and activities. When I do get free time, I love spending time with all my boys at the lake, our farm, or ATV riding in the mountains. I am a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan and have been teaching for 9 years. This is my 3rd year at Calhoun, and my boys and I have really fallen in love with this school. I have loved getting to know my students and their families. I am excited to see what this year holds!
My name is Lydia Harper, and I am the Tier 4 Intervention Aide at Calhoun Elementary. I am from Calhoun and a former Mink. I
have been married to my husband for over 20 years and together we have 2 sons and a daughter (who are also former Minks). I fell in love with teaching while working with Head Start and moved on to Calhoun. I love to spend time with my family at the
river or lake, reading, and crafting.

Meet Team Second Grade!
My name is Kayla Cate. This is my 1st year at Calhoun but my 12th year teaching. I taught Pre-K for 8 years before moving to 2nd grade 3 years ago and I love it. Calhoun is where I spent my childhood years and I’m glad to be returning home this year. I live on a farm with my husband and our 2 dogs and 2 cats. I enjoy going out to eat, exercising, going to concerts, and spending time with my friends and family.
My name is Ashlee Locke, and I am a second grade teacher at Calhoun Elementary! This is my second year of teaching but first year as a teacher at Calhoun. I also did my student teaching here in fourth grade. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Lee University in Spring of 2022. When I’m not teaching, I love to read and travel. I grew up in Etowah, but I now reside in Cleveland. I am very happy to be here at Calhoun Elementary with such a warm, welcoming faculty and staff and having the opportunity to teach my amazing students! It will be a wonderful school year!

When studying "Accidental Inventions," it might be necessary to invent your own duplication! Great job, Minks!

Mrs. Keylon's 8th Grade Science classes tested their engineering skills with the annual Egg Drop this morning.
