The McMinn County High School administration was notified of suspicious activity in an area of the student parking lot earlier today. As a precaution, school officials initiated searches of several vehicles in coordination with the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department’s K9 Unit.
During the search, a weapon was discovered in one of the vehicles and was immediately confiscated by the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department. The student who was driving the vehicle will be charged in McMinn County Juvenile Court with possession of a weapon on school grounds and will also face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with district policy.
At no point during this incident was there a threat to students or staff. The situation was handled promptly and safely.
The safety of our students and staff remains the top priority of McMinn County High School and McMinn County Schools. We are grateful for the continued partnership and swift response of the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department.
